Happy holidays

Well, I can't believe it is already December. So much to do, so little time.

I'm already busy making samples for the Kitsap Quilters Quilt Show in February.

And, I really need to be working instead of blogging!

Dr. Seuss

Hi everyone! I just got my first box of Dr. Seuss. But, alas, only four bolts. The rest will ship later this month. Drat. Quilt show is in October, so we are looking at some power sewing! Wish me luck.

Is it really almost August?

Wasn't the first day of summer yesterday? Oh my goodness. I'm not ready for fall. Are you?

Well, one nice thing about fall, more time to sew. Ha!

I've ordered lots of new fabric. My Christmas Hoffman Balis came this week and Colorful Christmas is due today.

And I've ordered the new Dr. Seuss fabric! Alot of it! A sneak peak...

Well, this is going to be a short one, time to get ready for work...have a lovely day (even if you are in Fiji --Melly--)!

Happy 4th of July

My goodness. Is it really July? Feels like February here in the PNW (Pacific Northwest), 66 degrees and overcast. One of the weathermen calls it Feb-uly. Please.

It has been an intense past couple of months.

My Dad passed away on June 17. He had been diagnosed with Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) several years ago. I'm going to miss him more than I'm ready to admit right now. My Dad was more than my Dad, he was my buddy, my shipmate.

We've set up a website (still a work in progress) to help raise awareness for this disease and to help raise money in his honor.

www.firstgiving.com/leoncotey

My Dad gave me what was left of his seam rippers and other custom woodturned sewing items. Little by little I'll get them listed on my site, but I'd really like to have the proceeds go to him via his site. So, I'll have to figure that out and take pictures so you can see how wonderful those tools are.

I've gotten a lot of new items in and have been working like a fiend on some personal things and have gotten behind on my business, so please forgive me. I've been distracted.

So, please have a safe & happy 4th of July. If you still have your Dad, please give him a hug and tell him you love him. Dad, I really miss you.

Memorial Day

Today is the day we honor our men and women in military service. It is also the "official" first day of summer.

How do you celebrate?

When I was in the Navy, depending on where I was stationed, I worked. Either I had duty (which means you are on call 24 hours, stand a watch for 4-8 hours and/or work at your job), or I had the day off.

I never was home for Memorial Day. I saved my leave time for other times.

This Memorial Day, I'd like to honor my Dad. He is still with us, and I love him dearly. My Dad served as a Master Chief Personnelman for 23 years. I was a little kid, jokingly referred to as a Navy brat. Still am. I am the oldest of five and I really believe I'm my Dad's favorite (even though my siblings would disagree). After high school and some college, I followed in my Dad's footsteps. I wanted to experience some of the same things he did. I wanted to travel and see the world (and get college paid for). I fondly remember slides (my parents were slide people) of Hong Kong and other places. How exotic! We would always look forward to the things our Dad would bring us back. Funny, but I don't remember most of them. But, I do remember a funny can of Coca Cola from Japan. I think every foreign port I visited, I looked in the grocery stores for my funny can of Coke.

My Mom was even in the Navy for a little while. Her brother and her Dad (and most of his brothers) were in the Navy too. Grandpa was a Navy Frog Man. They were at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked.

So, back to Memorial Day, this is the day I reflect on my family's history and am grateful that we all served and came home to our families. I think of the shipmates that did not.

So, when you are chowing down on that BBQ today, at 3:00 pm, please think of those men and women in service and say "thank you". It really means a lot to us and our families.

This just in...

Well, I've finally gotten to the first post. I thought it would be something profound. Well, not really. I just wanted to share some Moda love.

I came home to my favorite thing...a VERY heavy box with blue & white tape. If you've never seen the blue & white tape, it has Moda all over it. My UPS driver's wife is a quilter, so he's especially careful with my boxes--he knows these are my favorite.

Guess what was inside?

Lots of precuts for the new Holiday 2010 season! Visit my site (http://www.auntiepami.com/) to see what was in it. Here is just a sampling.
